Im slightly confused???

I do not live in New England or anywhere near there (i live in Florida as of now), but I am considering going to school in Boston. I did some research on the tourneys, fields and players. And the one thing i noticed is that there are A LOT of players, but the thing that confuses me the most is that you have so many D2 teams. In Florida all the regional tournaments only go up to D3 and if you are playing D2+ you are playing either CFOA or National Events. In Florida you have to be extremely nasty to play D2. You have to be nasty to even play D3 Xball. Maybe its just because there are more players in a smaller area? or is D2 kind of common place in the New England area? And how do D2 teams out of New England do in National Events?
