PTS Event 2 thoughts/comments
I did notice that they listened to a lot of the concerns we had after the 1st event. There were more fields, the amateur teams didn't have to wait all day to play, and they even added music.
The negatives from this event from my perspective was the grass fields were muddy as heck, but that was mother natures fault. I'm not very fond of mixing the teams up although I do see the need for it with very few youth and amateur teams signing up. If at all possible in the future, I'd avoid scheduling youth teams to play amateur teams. It just destroys their confidence and isn't really isn't good for either team. Maybe schedule youth to play rookie if you have to and rookie to play amateur, but not youth to play amateur. That's just too big a jump for them.
If I had it my way if there were only 4 amateur teams signed up again, I'd have the amateur teams play each other multiple times. If we played Scuba Squad, Shortbus Allstars, and Black Flag, 3 times each - that would be 9 games. That could also eliminate the need for finals. Or have us play each other twice for a total of 6 games, maybe throw 1 rookie game in there and then still have the finals as planned.
